LAS 289 Internship Course

The world of work is an integral part of an individual and contributes to your well-being and identity. Internships provide an opportunity to apply your academics, uncover new layers of your career interests, and build professional skills through meaningful experiences across a variety of roles and fields. Internships also allow you to explore what “fits” your strengths, interests, and values—and just as importantly, what doesn’t.
This asynchronous online course will guide you in reflecting on your internship experience and connecting it to your future career goals. Through check-ins, self-paced activities, and structured assignments, you will deepen your understanding of your professional identity, sharpen workplace skills, grow your network, and expand your awareness of career possibilities.
General Eligibility Requirements
- Review the LAS 289 Internship Policy
- You must have an internship (or research) secured BEFORE enrolling in an academic course – yes that means on-campus and off-campus research counts as internship credit
- International students must complete CPT approval through OIS before beginning an off-campus internship
- You must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5/4.0
- You can only do one internship course per semester
- You can get PAID AND EARN CREDIT (It doesn’t have to be one or the other. Ask us about funding opportunities!)
- LAS 289 can be taken TWICE for a MAXIMUM of 6 graduation/elective hours (3 credits one semester and 3 credits another semester).

Credit Breakdown
- 1 Elective Credit = 40 hours completed during the semester
- Time Commitment: ~3 hours per week during a 15-week semester, ~5 hours per week during an 8-week semester
- 2 Elective Credits = 80 hours completed during the semester
- Time Commitment: ~6 hours per week during a 15-week semester, ~10 hours per week during an 8-week semester
- 3 Elective Credits = 120 hours completed during the semester
- Time Commitment: ~8 hours per week during a 15-week semester, ~15 hours per week during an 8-week semester

Week 7: Interview Prep and Salary Negotiation
Week 8: Internship Showcase, Mock Interview, and Final Evaluation
I really enjoyed LAS 289 because it pushed me to reflect deeply on my internship and helped me make important connections between my work and my long-term goals that I wouldn’t have made otherwise. The course turned everyday tasks into meaningful learning and growth opportunities.
