The LAS Career Development and Internships Office supports liberal arts and sciences students with career and major exploration through individual career counseling appointments, online resources, and programming to help students explore their interests, strengths, skills, motivations, and values while also gaining experience in various industries through internships and experiential activities. We offer a welcoming space for students to fully engage in the career development process, empower campus partners and friends of UIC to be our collaborators, and lead with intention to ensure students are equipped to navigate an ever-changing career landscape.

MISSION:

Our mission is to holistically support liberal arts and sciences students throughout every step of the career and major exploration process through individual career counseling appointments, online resources, and programming to help students explore their unique interests, skills, strengths, motivations, and values to ensure students are connected to valuable experiences and internships that promote career readiness. Our career development framework includes:

  • REFLECTION: meeting students wherever they are in the career exploration process and encouraging deeper connections to their unique interests, strengths, skills, motivations and values
  • RESEARCH: working together to identify roles and work environments while sharing accessible resources to gain an understanding of career pathways with an LAS degree
  • EXPOSURE: increasing access to opportunities by facilitating connections with alumni, professionals, and employers
  • EXPERIENCE: educating students on the importance of experiential learning to promote career readiness

VISION:

A future in which LAS students fully engage in their career development process to design their unique career path aligned with their professional identity and feel confident that they are career ready.
